Behind the Nighttime Formula

DERMA-X Night Renewal is being developed as a nighttime cosmetic cream featuring Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR), a retinoid ester.

The project combines emulsion formulation research with the evaluation of selected skincare ingredients and their compatibility within a cream-based system.

Earlier prototype work involved preparing the water and oil phases, observing the emulsion during cooling, reviewing formulation texture, and recording preliminary pH measurements.

These development observations are preliminary. They do not establish finished-product safety, long-term stability, or demonstrated skin benefits.

Product Format HPR-containing nighttime cream in a proposed 2 oz cosmetic jar
Featured Ingredient Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR), selected for the formulation
Development Status Active formulation refinement. Release date not announced.

01 / Ingredient Research

Exploring the Components

The following ingredients have been selected, used in earlier prototypes, or considered during development. The final commercial ingredient list remains subject to formulation review.

Emollient Research

Olive Squalane

An emollient used in the exploratory cream base. Development work considers its influence on the sensory characteristics, spreadability, and texture of the emulsion.

Oil Phase Research

MCT Oil

A lightweight oil component incorporated into an earlier prototype as part of the formulation's oil phase.

Emulsion Development

Emulsifying Wax & Cetyl Alcohol

Ingredients used in developing the preliminary cream structure. Their roles include helping form the oil-and-water emulsion and influencing its viscosity and texture.

Peptide Research

GHK-Cu & SNAP-8

These peptides have been explored within the broader DERMA-X development program. Their suitability for the final HPR-containing Night Renewal formulation has not been established.

Supporting Cosmetic Ingredients

Additional Formulation Components

Niacinamide, azelaic acid, hyaluronic acid, and other cosmetic ingredients have been considered during DERMA-X development. Final inclusion and compatibility remain subject to evaluation.

02 / Formulation Development

Developing the Night Cream Base

Our exploratory formulation work focuses on developing an oil-and-water emulsion suitable for further ingredient compatibility research.

01

Preparing the Phases

Water and oil phases were prepared separately during earlier exploratory work.

02

Emulsion Formation

The prepared phases were combined and mixed to develop the initial cream structure.

03

Cooling & Evaluation

The emulsion was observed during cooling for changes in texture, consistency, and appearance.

04

HPR Formulation Research

Ongoing development considers how the selected retinoid can be incorporated while evaluating compatibility, stability, and suitable formulation conditions.

What We've Observed So Far

Selected observations from earlier cream prototype work. These do not constitute validated stability or safety test results.

Initial Emulsion Formation

An exploratory batch produced a cream-like emulsion after preparation and mixing of the water and oil phases.

Texture and Appearance

The initial cream base appeared light yellow and visually uniform during early observations. This does not confirm long-term stability.

Preliminary pH Observation

An earlier prototype produced a recorded pH reading of approximately 4.46. This is an exploratory measurement, not a finalized product specification.

Exploratory Concentrate Addition

A separate test jar was used to observe incorporation of a previously prepared daytime concentrate. Its initial appearance was observed, but long-term compatibility was not established.

HPR Development Priorities

The HPR-containing formulation requires further evaluation of chemical stability, processing conditions, packaging, and ingredient compatibility. No validated HPR stability results are being reported at this stage.

Where Development Stands

DERMA-X Night Renewal — In Development

HPR has been selected as a featured component of the Night Renewal formulation. Work continues on the cream base, ingredient compatibility, and formulation refinement.

The commercial formula, active HPR concentration, shelf life, and release date have not yet been finalized.

Areas requiring additional evaluation include:

  • HPR chemical stability, including light and oxidation sensitivity
  • Emulsion texture and physical stability
  • Ingredient compatibility and formulation pH
  • Preservative effectiveness and microbiological safety
  • Appropriate retinoid safety assessment, warnings, and labeling
  • Packaging compatibility and final specifications
